Document any art shows you go to in your Research Workbook. Get out and enjoy the Arts in your community! There is a lot going on in Houston. Read the Arts section of the local newspapers to find out what's happening around you.

Grove Art Online is the most comprehensive and authoritative online resource for all research in the history of the visual arts. You must have a Houston Public Library Card number to access this database. All IB Studio Art students should be using books for most of your research. Internet research does not provide the depth that IB is looking for. Apply for a library card this semester if you do not have one!

Week #2– Composition, Balance and Unity. The Golden Mean First Studio Project Themes- Year 1 studentsYour first studio project should relate to you RWB work. Choose to do something small, so you can complete it. Students should be deciding on a theme or direction that they want to explore more fully with a studio project. Year 2 students Re-read your RWB if you need and reconnect with your "creative path". Look for the connections that you may have missed last year. Start narrowing down your focus as well. Last year and over the summer, you should have spent time trying many different techniques and looking at many different styles of art. Start narrowing down your focus and looking for connections in your work. You will want to start trying to gain some depth in your work both in your understanding of what you've been working on and in the quality of the techniques you are using. Focus on quality and depth now and keep track of the time between now and your examination. Push yourself hard this semester to complete studio work! Week #3– Continue working on RWB. Year 1 students Begin a studio work this week. If you don't have an idea, use one of the assignments I've given you or choose one from any of the other Art classes web pages. You will be expected to finish at least one major studio piece per 6 weeks. Year 2 students Focus on your studio work in preparation for your examination next semester. You should continue completing at least one studio work per 6 weeks. I will be expecting a finished studio piece each 6 weeks. You should also be working at home at least 4-5 hours a week. You must put in hours outside of class to complete the IB requirements! Think ahead and be prepared for your exam! It will come sooner than you expect. Use your time wisely!
